Each session begins with a demonstration by David Giles. This term the demos will be based on 6 different artists, 3 abstract expressionists, Aida Tomescu, Tony Tuckson and Willem de Kooning and 3 landscape artists, Jo Davenport, Lise Temple and Phillip Wolfhagen. The emphasis is on self expression rather than copying. We will begin by exploring some historically significant abstract expressionist artists and experimenting with confident and expressive mark making on a grand scale!!! It is useful, if not esssential, to be able to paint without hesitancy, whatever style you favour or end up with, and hopefully you will find practising confident mark making findamentally uesful t your artistic development. Next we will explore three landscape artists and different techniques and processes to apply confident mark making to renditions of landscape.

  • Week 1 Aida Tomescu

  • Week 2 Tony Tuckson

  • Week 3 Willem de Kooning

  • Week 4 Jo Davenport

  • Week 5 Lise Temple

  • Week 6 Phillip Wolfhagen

  • Week 7 and 8 Freestyle
